Werewolf Paladin
Christopher Willeson, a thirteenth-century knight, was a member of the secretive order of St. George, a group devoted to fighting the elements of the evil supernatural in the world. Willeson first appeared in ID comics's "Tales of the Strange" in 1975. In his first appearance, the entire rest of the Order of St. George was slaughtered by a werewolf attack. Christopher was the only survivor, but even he did not escape unscathed: A werewolf had bitten the Knight, infecting him with the curse of the wolf. Neither accepted by the forces of Christiandom that he had been allied with, nor the supernatural world he was now a part of, Christopher, who took the title of The Werewolf Paladin, roamed Europe, waging a one man battle with the forces of evil and the darkness within himself. The Werewolf Paladin was one of "Tales of the Strange"'s most popular characters, and eventually gained his own series. Over the years, the Paladin faced Dragons, imps, sea-monsters, evil knights, genies, and an assortment of other characters. The series ended in issue #322 of 'The Werewolf Paladin', when Christopher sacrificed himself to save his son (born of his greatest enemy, the with Eowaer). Formerly having sworn to kill his father, the last panel of the series shows Arthur picking up his father's sword, symbolically accepting his father's quest as his own.
