Personal history

Qaxqiel's parents were nomads. He never knew his father and his mother, Viahla was considered by many to be a lunatic, often telling anyone who would listen of the voices she heard on the wind, in the waters, beating through the earth. He spent most of his young years travelling with Viahla and grew up fast, forced to protect his mother from those that would take advantage of her. They moved from town to town, living like parasites, stealing just enough to survive.

One day in particular, after a rainstorm and crossing the "border" from Drooam to Breland, Vialha had one of her many fits. A rather zealous Warrior and ardent follower of the Silver Flame (also returning from an excursion into the nation of monsters) took her maddening shouts for blasphemy and "ended" her suffering. Much to the suprise all involved, Qaxqiel did nothing.

Left to his own devises, he spent some time as a blacksmith's apprentice in Breland, but found that his attention always wandered, and he began to think that he was hearing the same "whispers" his mother had.

He travelled for some time, taking odd jobs, both honest and no, learning what he could and finally settling for some time with a mercenary company, The Blackeyed Bandits. At first they were confused by his apparent apathy, but his natural strenghts and quick wit made him a valuable asset. Although not known for their stability of membership, they did get the job done, and were quickly hired as a strikeforce opposing the Karnathi forces in an attempt to secure a foothold in the wilds of Karnath.

The battle would probably been over quickly, but an avalanch closed off the escape route for both sides, and although the Karnathi's had the home turf advantage, fortune did not seem to be on their side. Both groups took heavy losses, but the training and strategies of the Karnathi forces was superior, and Qaxqiel's company was torn to pieces when the endurance of The Blackeyes finally ran out, and they made a last ditch charge.

The Karnathi forces, secure in their victory (and not knowing there was a survivor) left the battlefield.

It was not till 3 days into their journey back home that a scout sighted someone following them.

The leader of the group, a young member of house Deneith rode with two of her best to meet him.

Beaten and bloodied, and near dead Qaxqiel told them that he was worth more to them alive. Something in his eyes, (or perhaps it was magick?) convinced the Karnathi leader to take him on as a prisoner, and it later paid off when he actually joined their side (even chained) and helped defeat a group of gnoll raiders that ambushed them on the way back to their camp.

A tenuous friendship was formed between the Karnathi and the Vagabond, and he eventually followed her to Sharn, and joined the "collection agency" formed there. It was in these early days that he began to follow in his interest in the shape and form of things. He found he had a natural talent for building things, as if he could see how the pieces came together and how they could be taken apart.

After working with objects for a short while, Qaxqiel is becoming curious with the workings of living things and his sucess with the creation of his homonculous, Dross, has cemented his interest.

Slowly, over the last few adventures, Qaxqiel has become a bit more social and inquistive. He often finds himself staring at people, examining every detail, storing it for consideration later.
